City of Minneapolis radon kits

Due to high demand, Minneapolis is no longer taking requests for free radon kits. The city page points you to low-cost kits you can buy online.

Who it is for. The paused offer was for Minneapolis residents.

The city is not taking free-kit requests. It says low-cost kits can be purchased online. No current city price is listed.

Do not travel for a city kit right now. Read the city page, then use a state or county option if you still need a test.

The city page says it was last updated on August 26, 2026. Health Department phone 612-673-2301. Public Service Building, 505 Fourth Ave. S., Room 520, Minneapolis, MN 55415. That address is a department contact, not a kit pickup while requests are paused.

Why the options differ

One county sells an $8 kit at three offices. Another city has paused free requests. A state may mail one free kit per household. If we cannot find the price on an official page, we do not guess.

How the directory stays honest

Each record has an official link and a last-verified date. A report of a change opens an email. It does not publish itself. Read the methodology.

Kit or monitor

A short-term kit is the inexpensive screen. A reusable monitor costs more up front and can move to another home later. Neither one replaces a professional test when a sale requires one.

Test your home. Then help someone else test theirs.

A reusable monitor does not have to stay in one house. After you have a reading you trust for your own home, you can lend it to a parent, an adult child, a coworker, a neighbor, or a friend.

Here is an example, not a sale price. If a roughly $100 monitor is eventually used by five households, the equipment cost works out to about $20 per household. Your real price will be whatever the maker charges that day.

Lending a monitor this way does not meet a professional test or a real estate requirement. When you move the device, follow the manufacturer's instructions and start a new measurement.
