Radon Test Kits in Minnesota
Minnesota's health department says every home should be tested, and that more than two in five Minnesota homes have radon levels that pose a significant health risk. Minneapolis is not taking free-kit requests right now. Ramsey County mails a $2 short-term kit to residents. Dakota County sells kits for $10 at two service centers. Washington County offers free short-term kits for residents at listed pickup sites. Olmsted County loans a kit you pick up in Rochester. Anoka County's $10 mail kit is out of stock until the county says more arrive in the fall. Chisago County offers free short-term kits at North Branch and Center City when they have them. Winona County sells a short-term kit for $5 at 225 W. 2nd Street, and the page says that price is grant funded. Fillmore County offers no-cost kits in the public health office, by mail, or at outreach events.

State test kit options
Minnesota Department of Health radon program
MDH says every Minnesota home should be tested. In Minnesota, more than two in five homes have radon levels that pose a significant health risk.
MDH's overview page does not sell a state kit or list a state kit price.

MDH says the EPA action level is 4 pCi/L. MDH recommends a mitigation system at 4 pCi/L or higher, and says a system can be considered between 2 and 4 pCi/L. Testing steps are on the MDH radon testing page.
City of Minneapolis radon kits
Due to high demand, Minneapolis is no longer taking requests for free radon kits. The city page points you to low-cost kits you can buy online.
Who it is for. The paused offer was for Minneapolis residents.
The city is not taking free-kit requests. It says low-cost kits can be purchased online. No current city price is listed.
Do not travel for a city kit right now. Read the city page, then use a state or county option if you still need a test.

Hennepin County radon testing guidance
Hennepin County does not describe its own free-kit program. It points Minnesota residents to a discounted short-term Air Chek kit and to RSSI for a long-term kit.
The county page does not list a county kit price or a free-kit giveaway. It says Minnesota residents receive a discount on short-term Air Chek kits. It does not list the discount amount.

Ramsey County sells a short-term Air Chek radon test to residents for $2, by mail only.
Who it is for. Ramsey County residents. The county does not sell kits to realtors or businesses, and it does not offer a long-term kit.

Dakota County sells radon test kits to residents for $10 at the Apple Valley and West St. Paul service centers.
Who it is for. Dakota County residents. Up to five kits per visit, paid by credit card, check, or exact cash. Public Health does not mail kits and does not give them to businesses, including real estate agents.

Olmsted County radon kit loan
Olmsted County loans a radon test kit that you reserve online, pick up in Rochester, and return within one week.
Who it is for. You are borrowing the kit. Bring a driver's license or other state-issued ID. If the kit is damaged or not returned, you pay the cost of the kit.
You pay a processing fee when you reserve the kit. The county page does not print the dollar amount. It says to search the county fee finder for radon.
Reserve a pickup time on the county request form and pay the processing fee. Pick up and return the kit at Public Health Services, 2100 Campus Drive SE, Suite 100, Rochester. Return it within one week of the issue date.
