CDPHE says radon is found at elevated levels in one out of every two Colorado homes. The department says it does not test your home for you. The discounted kit link on that page goes to https://sosradon.org/test-kits. We did not republish a discounted price because the CDPHE page did not list one.

EPA radon zone

EPA classifies Denver County as Zone 1, its highest radon-potential category. Individual homes can vary, so testing is still the only way to know your home's level. The zone is not a claim that your house is high.

Local radon notes

Denver's health department recommends testing your home every 2 to 3 years because conditions change.

How to test, and what a result means

Place the kit the way its instructions say, and keep the house closed when the kit requires that. A short test is a screen. It is not the last word if your state wants a follow-up test.

Where can I get a free radon test kit in Denver?

Denver residents can use the free order form linked from the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment radon page, while supplies last. You can also use CDPHE's statewide form, which says one kit per household per year.

Test your home. Then help someone else test theirs.

A reusable monitor does not have to stay in one house. After you have a reading you trust for your own home, you can lend it to a parent, an adult child, a coworker, a neighbor, or a friend.

Here is an example, not a sale price. If a roughly $100 monitor is eventually used by five households, the equipment cost works out to about $20 per household. Your real price will be whatever the maker charges that day.

Lending a monitor this way does not meet a professional test or a real estate requirement. When you move the device, follow the manufacturer's instructions and start a new measurement.
